Thursday 22.04.08
Dali

It’s 6.30. I’m in bed with the quilt around me. Watched the CCTV9 weather forecast last night. Now I know it’s just before 19.30.
The weather has gone crazy over most of China. 50 mm in Beijing, a new record. Down south 150 mm. Cold winds are blowing from the high plateaus in Tibet and Qinghai. Yes thank you, I have noticed!
It was all so fast, but I mean to understand, that the best spot to stay in should be around here. 5-17 degrees and no rain.
An opening of the window ajar tells me they were right. It’s cold but still no rain. I hope the wind won’t be blowing neither, but that will show out in the open.

Xi’an
That was my marathon. Once and never again. But I have to admit: first big goal is achieved – it’s time for consideration and relaxation.
The day was without bright spots. The wind wasn’t as hard as yesterday, but pure headwind. I even started go the wrong direction. Trusted my nose too much and hadn’t bothered looking at the map. If I had, I would have seen that Dali is a junction. So I wasted 6 km going along S202.
By the speed I was doing I soon realized, there wouldn’t be much time for breaks, if I was to arrive before dark. So it was an unbearable day. I don’t want to think about it.
And it GOT dark, but you don’t use lights here normally, so my magnet lights prove to have some efficiency.
Han Tang Inn Youth Hostel was hard to find, so I didn’t get there before 20.45. No surprise I was totally worn out.
