English Version 55

Monday 26.05.08
Beijing

I wake up at 6 and have to go to the toilet. It`s more trouble here where the toilet is down the stairs in the courtyard. So when I`ve been there I might as well stay up.
When I was here last time I was new to how things are done here. Now I know that boiled water is a nescescity in Chinese hotels. So I asking the restaurant if I can get boiled water in my mug - of course I can. She fills it from the coffee machine so it`s real hot.
I get into a conversation with an English birdwatcher, who has been in the earthquake area before the quake. There are a lot of crazy people here including myself. In this way I go for The forbidden City one hour late.

Arriving at the ticket office Chinese tourists all over The forbidden city covers a LARGE area

It`s another surprise. I`ve been told that it`s big and never the less I`m overwhelmed when I`ve passed through two passages before I even come to the ticket office.
I buy a ticket for the Clocks and Watches Gallery. It`s a pity not only one of these fine machines work. How can you have a museum of clocks not being able to see what time it is?
I`m not reliable here it shows. When I tell it to the girl in the souvenir department she says that one of them actually works and when it`s exactly 11 o`clock I hear the faint sound of a bell in the next room.
Before that I talk to a Brazilian girl, who teaches English in Hohhot in Inner Mongolia. I get information on how to apply for a job for a year. How do I get to talk to all these people? It`s typical others that are alone like me. We find each other in d8ifferent ways. In this case because I have a guide map she wants to have a look at.
I get sick while I`m in the Palace Museum and I have to find a place to sit for a while half asleep. I get back on my feet. A star globus where I discover the big dipper makes me feel better for a moment, but I`m still sick. I manage to get back after a visit to the museum toilet.
Then I have to lie down. I sleep from 16 to 19 and then to 22. Then it`s time to go to bed and I continue sleeping till 6 in the morning.
