Letter 4

Sunday 24.07.11
The plan was to send the first mails, which I've waited to send, because I don't know when I'm online next time. How stupid of me. We sit and drink coffee late in the morning, meaning past noon - things easily get late in this house, and then they start making warm lunch, where I feel I must participate. And afterwards we havee to eat and it all ends up being too late. It's past 15 so I've got to hurry saying goodbye, getting to leave. Now the plan is to cycle until dark and find some place to put up my tent.
Just as I leave it starts drizzling. Not a good sign.

No. 25 - Mosterei Goodbye to the Maier's - a cat is missing

The climb to Rötenberg is worse than expected, but with 7-8 km/h I manage.
The map is not as detailed as I thought, but once more I've made a list of towns and villages I have to pass through. I wouldn't exactly call the landscape flat like Angela did. All towns are down holes in the ground it seems, but it's not TOO bad.
It was cold when I reached Rötenberg, but later the sun comes through. There's quite some wind but mainly in my back!
The hills have to get steeper: going up 15%! It's not long at first, but it's not over yet... Then as a miracle up comes a cycle road that cuts through the rest of the hill.
Up and down it goes. I decided to go past Deislingen. That was maybe not so wise. I ask for directions, but end up at a motor traffic road which meens no bikes. And I dare not take the other branch, the names of the towns are unknown to me. So back I go. Another asking leavees me with the same result. So it WAS the "unknown" one. It's all a mess of railway, motor traffic road and autobahn. It's not like in the map, but it DOES go to Trossingen. It's big and not very nice to ride, but I do get there.

Now I'm in a bus shelter eating the lunch packet I've brought and it's 19.30. I stop at 21.00 at the latest.
My fingers are a bit cold and I've only brought my bicycle gloves. That was a mistake. In the mountains it will no doubt get much colder.

Now I've put up the tent. It's only 20.50, but I reached a deserted road heading for Tuttlingen, and the cycle path was far from the road. Now I've come to where it ends but behind some bushes at a track is the perfect spot. I can hear the sound of the cars but that will die away soon - hopefully?
