Letter 27
Saturday 07.09.13 93.06 km
I have to go down to the lake. It looks very much like any other caldera lake on
a cloudy day. Actually it should be rain today. There has been a light drizzle,
but now when I leave, it stays at a low level. Just a light dripping most of the
morning.
I have to go up through a lot of tunnels. Nasty ones. The last is 2,5 km and
I choose to walk up on what might be called a sidewalk. It's hardly 1 m wide and
the tiles are sometimes 10 cm different in height. I tried to cycle there in one
of the shorter ones. I succeeded but it took a lot of concentration. I couldn't
have done it in this.
And then I hurry down towards Morioka. I feel a bit feeble after the giant
effort yesterday. My legs are "empty" every time the road inclines. Morioka is a
huge city. By a ring road I avoid the center and get to Route 4, that shall take
me south. Now I feel like I've been in this main road-surburban-hell for hours.
On my way down from the tunnels I could see, how the river must have gone
bezerk recently. Landslides, that has damaged the road. Accumulation of
splintered trees are still in the river. The railroad had ben repaired, but just
temporarily it seemed. The "Shinkansen" goes here but apparently not at
full speed? All caused by the great rainfall the other day.
The plan was to get to Hanamaki and I did. Out in the flat land the
kilometers are quickly digested. It was more or less settlements all the way
from Morioka to Hanamaki.
When a Road Station showed up I had to take a break. And when I saw someone
eating a softice I had to have one myself. That wasn't that easy. The lady had a
machine, where you should put the money and press the button for what you wanted,
and the machine would provide with the right receit. But I can't read!
Luckily she knew which one to press so I got my softice...
After such a nice, cold softice in the rain, I was ready for the last ten km.
Now I'm staying at 7.floor in Hotel Grand Ciel, which is next to the train
station. Could probably have found something cheaper, but the difference from
let's say 5.000 to 6.500 isn't big.
I used the opportunity trying to find out why the LAN-connection don't function
here either. Didn't succeed, but as they've got wi-fi too, I don't have any real
trouble, but I'd like to know.... "Windows didn't encounter any errors at this
connection". It has sent a lot of packages but received none - isn't that an
error....?
Welcome to Hotel Grand Ciel
