A quake yesterday night and another this morning. I didn`t know it took
so many before all gets quiet.
Yesterday I brought up the question of Tibet for some of the students
and what do they serve for me? The CCTV9 "news" that Tibet has been part
of China for more than a 1000 years. The "news" I already have heard and
seen for more than 3 times even CCTV9`s always missing. The tibetans are
only one of the 56 minorities in China. When I ask what happened in
Tibet in 1950`es there is a "hole" in history. When I ask why the Dalai
Lama is living in Indi I get no other answer than he`s not a good man.
So now when Hu Jintao is negotiating with Japan and history has to be
forgotten they also forget Tibets.
My mobile is charging! Yesterday the school had the loudspeakers going
so they had to have a generator and when I saw them working with the
amplifier I saw an extra outlet. So when they were working on the
amplifier again this morning trying to get some understandable radio out
I was there at once looking over their shoulders. There was just one
spare outlet exactly the one I needed. As the celebrity I am I got
permission and soon ready when ever the mobile net is.
Just when I`m in the middle of something I don`t remember anymore a "telephone-sign"
is given and a car is waiting with one of the Australians. First we have
to write down names and age and passport numbers aso. Then we go to a
place across the river where all the other foreigners are waiting. We
are placed in a HOT tent. The first never gets connection then the phone
is out of batteries. So we all wanders down to the queue where the
others obviously already have been standing. This is the common queue.
There are around 500 people. We manage to get into the line again where
the others left it and there we stand! It`s burning hot but for an old
traveller like myself it`s just standing the wait. You can only phone
inside China! Damned! The only Chinese phone number I`ve got is Hong Yan
in Chengdu. The number for the embassy is on the PDA! But when I search
my pockets up comes a piece of paper with - the number for the embassy!
Unfortunately the queue that seemed not so long is 3 times longer cause
all are in groups and most have been waiting in the shadows. An American
that can speak Chinese has been in the shadow (and the old man has been
in the sun) he comes back and has already made his phone call. Just now
technical problems has put all to standby. A Chinese holds my number
while I go with the others and after some talking and walking an elderly
military man puts up a small portable satellite telephone. I`m two in
line AND... Gets through to the Danish embassy and talks to Christian
and is SO, SO, SO relieved at last being able to tell my family that I`m
in GOOD shape. I`m on line for 6 min`s because the embassy wants to know
all about me and others are tapping my back twice so I feel a little bad
conscious.
