Chengdu
At last a quiet day. Went out buying clothes. A red t-shirt with the
writing "Wonderful China" and "Bing ge rong ma" I just HAD to have. And
a white shirt for when I visit the consul tomorrow. The most expensive
sandals they had in the supermarket and cheap underwear and socks in
suitable dark colours. Even I don`t get that dirty anymore! Have made a
copy of all my data on a CD and sent mails so everyone knows I`m still
here.
The consul suggested a tour on the Yangtze River, if I wanted to do
something else than the not anymore existing plan and I would have if I
had the time - and now I have.
So tomorrow I go to Chongqing by bus and visit the consul and the
next day my 3 day cruise on Yangtze starts. I`ve bought 1.class which
means you only share cabin with one more. The trip ends in Yichang where
I get on the train to Beijing.
Suddenly in the afternoon there`s a tremendous noise outside. All horns
and sirenes are pressed. It`s nothing serious we`re told by the staff. I
go outside to participate in this "one minute of noise" as a tribute to
the victims of the earthquake. Can it be more Chinese?
I myself think that should the chinese REALLY show their passion one
minute of silence would be much more special. But that`s too much to
ask.
